Beat the winter blues

The holidays are over but the winter is just beginning. For some of us, the short days and below freezing temperatures can get tedious but thankfully, Northwest Connecticut offers up the best distractions for the New England winter. Continue reading for our top 4 tips on how to fight off the winter blues.  

Eat well – With the shorter days and longer nights, vitamin D deficiency is a real problem! Fatigue and muscle weakness are a couple of symptoms that can start to affect you as the cloudy days drag on. Make sure to eat well! Visit the Norfolk Indoors Farmers’ Market every other Saturday through mid April inside of Town Hall at 19 Maple Avenue. A variety of vendors offer an eclectic mix of local meats and chicken, baked goods, honey and syrup.

Exercise Your Body – The Mohawk Mountain Ski Area located in Cornwall, with daytime and nighttime skiing and snowboarding, plus lessons for children, groups and private instruction. Trails are available for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities and the main lodge is open 7 days a week.

Exercise Your Mind – The occasional weekend of binge watching your favorite series and munching on pizza can get pretty boring, so why not try a class or a local seminar? The Scoville Memorial Library in Salisbury has weekly events covering a variety of topics such as a documentary filmmaker series, pasta making, book club and craft workshops.

Socialize – Get out and mingle! Bundle up in your warm layers and get out of the house. The new AJ’s Steak and Pizza in Goshen is always packed with the locals and for good reason. The recently built location is warm and inviting with a full bar and a variety of menu items including pasta, burgers, wings and you guessed it…steak and pizza!
