Farm and Food in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut

One of the things you will notice first as you drive through NW Connecticut, are the many beautiful farms. Very few places in the world have such an abundance of farms, one right after another. Generations have embraced farming in New England, and now the next generation is taking farming to the next level, reincorporating local food into everyday life.

Farm-to-fork is not a hipster concept here – we live it. We are lucky enough to have an abundance of milk, fruits, vegetables, flowers and fresh meats of all kinds. Many of our local restaurants support our local farms by featuring the produce and proteins on their menu – look for a listing of the local farms and support the restaurants that support our farms!

Many farm stands dot the roadsides, where you can pick up a wide variety of goods – some specialize and feature raw milk or vegetables or a nice selection of meats and eggs. Visit them all and figure out which ones have the best stuff! We all have our favorite farm stands. There is nothing better than a meal prepared with produce and proteins sourced from your neighbors. Many farms offer tours – check websites or pick up the phone – knowing the folks that feed us is a wonderful thing.
